So We Went On A Holiday!

Cairns to Victoria with 2 kids under 4

We have had a super fun time! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t travel with kids.  Ours were amazing and we didn’t have any problems that we wouldn’t have had at home in normal life anyway.  It’s a bit unfortunate if someone gets sick, but you just have to roll with the punches and adjust your plans to suit.  Make sure you always plan some fun for the kids and don’t forget to SMILE!!!

I have popped together our major costs all up the trip cost about $6750.00 which includes all extras, treats, fun stuff, and souveniers. But I have put a break down of the big stuff below.

Caravan Parks – $530.00

Food – $1,636.00 – this includes eating out, takeaway with friends and all the extras that you tend to buy while on holidays.

Fuel – $2,480.00

Other – $2,081.00 – all extras, including clothes, treats, excursions etc

Sea World – $378.44 – this included all food, souveniers and entry to the park.

Kilometers Travelled – 8468.5

Best Kid Friendly Caravan Parks – Discovery Parks Airlie Beach, Discovery Parks Dubbo, Park Beach Holiday Park Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast Holiday Park.  All of these parks have plenty of play equipment, lots of activities if the kids want to join in and pools.

As far as the camper goes, we have a 4 berth SUV Grand Deluxe,  we used the air conditioning most nights when in QLD and the reverse cycle heating when we were in Coonabarrabran, Junee & Tamworth.  You might be wondering travelling with 2 kids what we did with all their stuff, basically the kids were limited to 1 small backpack of toys books etc and this travelled with them in the car so they had things to do while travelling.  We don’t have dvd players in the car or camper so it was basically an unplugged holiday.  We did listen to a lot of wiggles during the car trips though…

The girls both sleep at the couch end of the camper  – we set Hailey up on the floor with the mattress from her portacot and Teagan on the couch with her sleeping bag/lilo.  They both have plenty of room and love this arrangement.

We had 3 bikes attached to the back of the camper for this trip, We used the below style of carrier for our bikes. The biggest disadvantage is that Teagan’s little bike doesn’t fit on this carrier and therefore we had to pop it inside the door of the camper.

So basically, dont let anyone tell you that you can’t travel with kids.  Our family had a really fun time and won’t hesitate to go again….. in fact we have a trip planned for 10 days over the Easter break!! and we cant wait!!!
